  • Matt and Natalie’s Jacksonville Airport Proposal

Matt + Natalie // The Proposal from Gator Bride Videography on Vimeo.

Okay, this is a video that is incredibly special to us. Matt of Matt Whytsell Photography contacted us a few weeks ago with an idea to capture on video his proposal to his long-time girlfriend, Natalie. Our answer? Heck yes.

We have been dreaming of capturing a wedding proposal on film. We were practically pinching ourselves when Matt asked us. We felt so lucky and honored that he would choose us to capture such a special and priceless moment.

We met Matt about an hour before Natalie’s flight came in. Why was he proposing at an airport? Watch the video above to find out.

Matt’s awesome 2nd shooter, James, was on hand to capture some pretty sweet pictures.

  • Impromtu Baughman Center Proposal

    Lainey giving Joe the love-eye.

    Hey y’all, Mr. Knight here!

So, last weekend Mrs. Gator and I were at the awesome Baughman Center rehearsing for a Gator Bride Videography wedding the following day (more on that soon). The Baughman Center, if you’ve never seen it, is a beautiful quaint little chapel on the edge of Lake Alice located on the west-side of the University of Florida campus. This place is, without a doubt, the place to get married in Gainesville. We even had some of our engagement photos taken there

On with the point… At the end of the rehearsal, I noticed a nervous-looking dude and a girl hanging-out around the side door at the North end of the chapel. Initially I thought it was just a few stealthy ninja guests that I hadn’t noticed yet; but, as the chapel emptied and only the three of us were left, I knew something was up. I was just finishing up packing all of our videography gear. The guy over yonder (I’ve always wanted to type that) was on the phone, hiding behind one of the few windowless walls, and the girl was pacing and sorta on the look-out for something. I then noticed a dozen red roses sitting at the edge of the alter and that got me curious. So I asked the girl what was up and she said the guy, Joe, was going to pop-the-question to his girlfriend, Lainey (who is completely unaware, or is supposed to be at least), in a few minutes.

Now… I wouldn’t necessarily say that I’m obsessed with weddings (like Mrs. Gator) but I am in the business of capturing the emotions and sentiment surrounding them. Unfortunately, I knew I wouldn’t have enough time to setup for a video… but… I did have all our camera equipment with me and I love photography too (I’m just not that good, haha). I asked the girl, who I guess was one of the soon-to-be-proposed-to’s best friends, if they had anyone to take pictures of the event (and hinted that I’d be willing to shoot if they didn’t). She said that she and the girl driving Lainey had brought their cameras, on the false pretense that they (the girls) were just gonna take some pictures together before going out to dinner, and had planned on taking photos of it but also hinted that she’d be thrilled to have me take a few shots too. I told her it would be pro-bono so she went and asked Joe about it. When she returned with a smiley-face, I knew it was a go…

I’d never taken photos of people outside my close family and friends before and that made me nervous. What had I gotten myself into? Why do I always throw myself into situations in which I have no idea what I’m doing. I think it’s just my curiosity and my knowing that in order to get better at something, you’ve got to challenge yourself (something I learned playing high school football). In any case,  I figured, for a free impromptu proposal shoot of people I’d never met before, there’s really no way this could turn out bad. You really can’t complain about free bad photos.

Joe and I hid behind a wall (which is hard since the Baughman Center is practically made of windows). I noticed how anxious he was so I figured now was as good as a time as any to start shooting.

Joe leaning against the wall nervously.

Joe is on the phone with Lainey’s friend pretending to be the girl in the chapel with him. See that little somethin’-somethin’ in his back pocket?

Joe holding a bouquet of a dozen red roses waiting for Lainey to see him in the distance.

What a guy… pullin’ out all the stops for this one.

Joe and Lainey hugging after they first saw each other. I think she liked the flowers. So far so good… Oh, and check out that Gator wallet… nice.

Joe pulling the white-gold ring out from it's box.

Joe and Lainey hugging after the proposal She said yes. :-)

Joe and Lainey kissing after the proposal.

An appropriate time for a kiss… yes, I agree.

Joe did a fantastic job. He told her how much he loved her, got on one knee, said the magic words, and slid the ring onto his new fiancé’s ring finger.

Joe and Lainey posing for at the north exit of the Baughman Center.

So, I guess, all-in-all, the photos turned out pretty darn good for being so spontaneous. I know they liked them a lot and that makes me feel really good.

Congratulations to Joe and Lainey and thank you for the opportunity to capture this moment for you.

    Side Note:
I shot this proposal on my birthday and it turned out to be one of my favorite birthday presents. I love photography and I love making people feel good. What better thing to do on your birthday than to make a newly engaged couple’s day?

  • 7 Years of Love♥ and Happiness :-)

Today marks the day of Mr. Knight and I’s 7 year anniversary. Yes I said it, we have been together 7 years and he is just now marrying me? I kid. Truth be told, we started dating really young (when we were 16) and knew we had to wait till after we both finished college to tie the knot. Even though Mr. Knight asked me to marry him 1 month into our relationship (yes, he really did do this) we knew realistically we couldn’t, but in our own little world we were husband and wife. :-)

Through the years we have seen each other change, mentally and physically. For me, it is crazy to look back on those first few years. I always think, what was this hott piece of man doing with little ol’ me? I felt then, and feel now that I’m truly blessed to have Mr. Knight in my life! How about a trip down memory lane?

Warning: this is going to be an extremely LONG post. So sit back, relax and enjoy! :-)

If we are going back in time… then lets go way back… starting with the 7th grade.

Mr. Knight and Miss Gator in Band in the 7th GradeThis is the first recorded photograph of Mr. Knight and I, taken at our 7th year band concert in our middle school’s lunch room (I know… classy). I played the flute and he played the oboe. We shared a music stand together… you can say that 7th grade is where it all started.

Mr Knight and Miss Gator at they Junior Year PromHere we are with our lovely Mommas, posing for pictures for our Junior Prom (we had been together about 6 months at this point). Doesn’t Mr. Knight look handsome? Prom also just happens to fall around my birthday and Mr. Knight showed up with a beautiful ring (with diamonds in it!) for my birthday. Love him! :-)

Mr. Knight and Miss Gator at their Senior Homecoming DanceHere we are before our Senior Homecoming. We look so little!

Mr. Knight and Miss Gator at their Senior PromHere we are taking photos for our Senior Prom. Don’t you just love Mr. Knight in the Black on Black combo? Yeah… I totally picked that out. :-) I still can’t believe that was 5 years ago. DANG!

Mr. Knight and Miss Gator at the UCF vs. UF GameHere we are at the UCF vs. UF Game… strange… Mr. Knight doesn’t seem to be wearing his colors….

Miss Gator's Christmas Gift from Mr. Knight... a CRUISE!The Christmas before we got engaged, Mr. Knight took me on my first cruise as my Christmas gift. How cool is that? Even cooler, my future Mother-in-law and her husband upgraded our room to a balcony room. Totally cool. What else? Mr. Knight’s grandparents had the crew decorate our room with balloons, and streamers, complete with a cake and champagne. His family is too good to me!

I knew Mr. Knight had wanted to propose to me on the cruise. He later said that he felt it would have been the perfect time to do so. But, both he and I knew it wasn’t financially the right time  (besides, I waited this long to marry him… what is a few more months?).

Us at Seminole Bridesmaid's weddingHere we are at Seminole Bridesmaid‘s Wedding. I was the Maid of Honor and had to give a toast. Mr. Knight knew how nervous I was and did his best to make me feel better. He even let me practice the toast on him and gave his helpful suggestions to me as to what would make the toast better. That’s one thing I really love about Mr. Knight, he is a great listener. When I come home after a long day of school, he will ask me about my day because… he genuinely wants to know, and will sit and listen to me.

Mr. Knight and Miss Gator at Miss Gator's GraduationMr. Knight and I at my Bachelor’s Degree Graduation.

One of the things I love so much about Mr. Knight is how supportive he is of anything I want to do. Even when I mentioned to him that I might want to stay in school and get a second Master’s degree, he totally supported me and said I should do it. It is truly wonderful to have someone like that in your life. He never crushes my dreams, he always supports them and pushes me to fulfill them.

Miss Gator and Mr. Knight in Ferryland, NewfoundlandHere we are in Ferryland, Newfoundland. Mr. Knight’s family were incredibly awesome and took us to Newfoundland for a family trip to visit relatives. It was incredible up there and even better to get to share the memories with Mr. Knight.

And now here we are… 5 months and 27 days till we are Mr. and Mrs.!

I really had a great time writing this post. It was great to look back on all the photos of us through all the years we’ve been together. All the trips we have taken together, all the major steps in life we have taken. I’m so incredibly proud and blessed to call Mr. Knight my fiance (and future husband!). I can’t wait to be his wife.

Happy Anniversary Mr. Knight! I look forward to many more happy and loving years with you! ♥ I still can’t believe it has been 7 years. You are absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to marry you, have a family with you, and grow old with you.

    Love you my sweetness!

    ♥ Miss Gator

  • Bride of the Week
  • Bride of the Week: Jessica – An FSU Sweety♥

Yes.. it is a little unorthodox to feature an FSU Bride on a very Gator Blog but I just can’t help it… I totally love these pictures and this Bride! Jessica contacted me a few weeks ago and we found that we have quite a bit in common. Both of us have been with our sweeties since high school, have had long engagements and both have some major love for our colleges. Can you dig this… she is having a Garnet and Gold wedding! Even though I’m not an FSU fan, I’m still excited about the thought of a college themed-wedding. And since Mr. Knight vetoed my ideas of an Orange and Blue wedding {sigh}, I will then have to live vicariously through Jessica’s garnet and gold nuptials. :-)

    Jessica and her sweetheart {headed to the chapel of love!}

Here is their love story (as told by the Bride):

Andy and I first met in High School when we were 16. Although we never dated until after college, we’ve always been best friends and socialized in the same circle.

Every year we plan a vacation with our friends. In 2007, it was a cruise, with 24 of our nearest and dearest. Each night we have a theme or color-scheme and everyone dresses the part. With 26 people all dressed alike you’re bound to make new friends! Before dinner we all lined up to take professional pictures. Once the big group shots were done we decided to take a few “couples photos” of Andy and me. In the first picture I am sitting on Andy’s knee and you can see him reaching for the ring in his pocket (I have no idea how he hid that from me!). The photographer then asks me to step behind Andy for another pose. As I turn around, Andy is already on his knee, and he pulled out the ring!

    Andy proposing to Jessica

I don’t even remember saying yes because I was crying and yelling… and we have all the evidence in pictures. Andy’s best friend and best man set it up with the photographer to keep taking pictures so we have all of the candid moments. Being the huge hams that we are, his proposal in front of the camera, while on vacation with our huge crew, was the best proposal I could have ever asked for!

So.. after 3 years of dating, and 10 years of friendship, Andy proposed on December 14, 2007.

They had 3 wardrobe changes and 5 different locations for their engagement pictures… and it was totally worth it. Each location had some sort of significance to the couple. They were taken at their church, the Opera house, their old high school, the Groom’s Mother’s business, and the Groom’s Grandparents house. Check out their super cute and unique engagement pictures below. ↓ (all photography by Meg Baisden Photography)

FSU LoversOhh… I’m so wishing Mr. Knight let us wear Orange and Blue for our E-session now. Love how they are ‘representin’ for their college here (along with showing some love for their alma mater).

    Umm.. totally loving this picture!

Jessica and Andy will be tying the knot November 2009 (wow… only 3 months away!). Which means… less time I have to wait to see wedding pictures! Hooray!

    Congratulations Jessica and Andy!
