  • Cake Toppers for a FSU Groom and a Gator Bride

    It’s homecoming… how about another Gator-ific entry?

One of my very first posts ever was featuring our cute Knight and Gator cake toppers custom made by Bunnywithatoolbelt. Since being featured here on Gator Bride she has been asked several times to make college themed cake toppers. Here is her latest creation for a FSU Seminole Groom and UF Gator Bride.

The Seminole Groom rendered these little figures to give Bunnywithatoolbelt to build their Cake Toppers fromThe Groom made these little renderings for Hilary of Bunnywithatoolbelt. These are really cute renderings, minus the last one. The Gator should really be chomping the Seminole considering how awesome our football team is… just throwing that out there. The Groom must be in denial. :-)

Either way I give the groom some major brownie points for making these little renderings. Too cute!

  • Wedding of the Week: Meghan:: A True Gator Bride

Since it is game day here in Gator-ville, I feel the need to post this incredibly Gator Wedding!

First off I want to say that I absolutely LOVE my readers. I love them even more when they contact me with their seriously awesome Gator Weddings!

Meghan contacted me a few weeks ago. She’s was a Gator Bride with a ‘Bama lovin’ fiance. Although he didn’t exactly go for the Orange and Blue wedding Meghan desired, they did end up with an incredibly fabulous orange wedding. She also has a super cute blog (that has become by weekly read), Flip Flops & Gator Gear. Check out their love story and wedding pictures below.↓

Allen and I met at UF 3 years ago. He was raised in Alabama and is a diehard fan, but somehow ended up in the Sunshine State. I like to think he just wanted to go to the school with the better football team. He actually really likes Gator football (how could you not in Gainesville?!), unless they are playing ‘bama. The 2008 SEC Championship Game was a real test of our relationship.

When we decided to get married, I immediately started pitching the orange and blue color scheme to everyone. No one seemed to appreciate it as much as me. Shocking, I know! We ended up with shades of orange, but I managed to sneak some Gator details in throughout. Allen even wore a blatant Gator orange tie to the wedding…but he didn’t have much of a choice. No worries though, I surprised him with some love for the Crimson Tide as well.

Our wedding ceremony was at the Orlando LDS Temple and our reception was at Citrus Restaurant in downtown Orlando. Every detail was Gator orange from the place cards to my shoes. My bridesmaids set up a Gator hand-puppet in the bridal suite (so he discretely made his way into several “getting ready” shots) and I wore a half Florida Gator/half Alabama garter. Our guestbook was a football that was hand-painted with a Gator logo on one side and an Alabama logo on the other. I suprised Allen with a groom’s cake in the shape of legendary Alabama coach Bear Bryant’s iconic houndstooth hat. One of the best memories of the evening was when our first dance was wrapping up; in comes Florida mascot Albert the Alligator. He tapped on Allen’s shoulder to cut in on the dance and everyone was so shocked and excited that they were cheering….even those foolish Alabama fans in the room!

  • A Serious Daisy Obsession

Have I told you about my Daisy obsession? If not, then you are in for a surprise… cause girl… I am in love with daisies! I mentioned in my cake post that I wanted to put little white daisies on our wedding cake. Well, I’m not stopping there. I’m thinking daisy bouquets, daisy centerpieces and daisy decor. They are just so sweet and summery (and happy!).

Flowers from Mr. KnightFlower from Mr. Knight. He knows my favorite! And is that our vases for our centerpieces I see? I’m thinking something like this for our tables but with all white daisies.

So I guess my obsession is more of a daisy/floral/yellow obsession. I don’t know what it is about that combination. All I know is that all these pictures make me incredibly happy inside. :-)

  • Showing Some Wedding Cake Love

One of the first wedding items we bought for our wedding was cake toppers (and might I say they are possibly the best and most unique addition to our wedding). ↓

Mr. Knight and Miss Gator's Cake Toppers by BunnywithatoolbeltThe little Gator Bride is missing her delicate little veil in this picture, but you can still get the idea.

3 months later we started thinking that we weren’t sure if we wanted a cake at all. Mr. Knight and I aren’t big cake lovers. We are more of  southern dessert lovers… apple pie…. apple cobbler… okay so pretty much anything with apples in it. We had this grand idea that my grandmother (along with my help) would make all these apple pies. Well, that was quickly vetoed when we decided that we were lazy and we wouldn’t know what to do with our cute little cake toppers.

    So on to cake inspiration! {yummy}

    Cake #1

    Dot Tall cake
ohh how pretty! Mr. Knight and I love this cake. We want to do something similar to this but with aqua ribbon and instead of the cake being round we want square. Yes I said it… we want a square cake. I think it’s the Architecture student in me… but I love the modern look of a square cake.

    Cake #2

orchid cakeAnother one we love. It is so simple and gets to the point. We would probably do this without the orchids (maybe white daisies instead?). Can’t you just see our lovely little knight and gator at the top of this sweetness?

Okay… so here is something I’m sort of thinking about for our garden/romance wedding. We are already going with the wooden cake toppers showcasing our alma maters… why not add one of these cute little wood banners? Imagine Cake #2 with white daisies (instead of orchids), our cake toppers and this banner on a lower tier.

Our Wedding Cake BannerWood cake banner by baumbirdy, $20.

Instead of saying ‘Our Wedding’ what about ‘Miss Gator ♥ Mr Knight’ (but obviously with our real names)? Simple square cake with rustic details and white daisies? hmmmm..

    Cake #3

Okay so this last cake is a dream cake… meaning we could probably never afford one that looks like this (a bride can dream).↓

Miss Gator's Dream CakeIn order to get this look we would probably have to go with a fondant cake… not what we are looking for (we are buttercream people). So beautiful, yet so out of reach! Even though I like it, I think it is not really the style of our wedding. Still, quite a beautiful cake.

So far I’m leaning towards Cake #2. I can see it all coming together… now all I have to do is convince Mr. Knight that we have to get the wooden cake banner. Not only is it super cute but it will also make for a pretty sweet keepsake after the wedding.

If you have been reading any of my posts for the last two months, then you know a thing or two about the awesome that is my bridal consultant at Solutions Bridal, Kari (the one who put me in the dress of my dreams!). Her and her hubby were married a few weeks ago and I’m so incredibly excited to finally get to share her wedding with you all (I somewhat stalked Kara Pennington Photography’s blog for these photos to come up).
